Let’s face it, hospitals are scary.
I don't remember ever having a pleasant experience at a hospital before. From the sad splattering of people seated in the waiting area looking dejected and forlorn to the rude staff who think it is unnecessary to treat patients with even a modicum of respect. Nothing appeals to me about these morbid establishments - how the stench of chemicals, medicine and crushed dreams, sticks on you long after you have exited those pale double doors. The way everyone looks at each other with pity in their eyes...and the doctors and specialists who seem to have little regard for the comfort level of patients. I could never get used to the idea of hospitals so I made sure I rarely had a reason to ever visit one. You can only imagine my dismay when a good friend of mine pleaded with me to escort her to the very place that filled me with skin crawling anxiety and dread.

We drove through the busy streets of Abuja and arrived at the white gates of Zitadel Medicals and Diagnostics located at Plot 417 First Avenue, Gwarinpa Estate, Abuja, F.C.T. The elegant building looked more like a house than a hospital, lacking the blatant dryness and monotony of other structures bearing the same name. The small compound was kept clean and well-maintained on the exterior and upon walking through the glass doors we were greeted by the pleasant cool air that had just a touch of scented freshener. The gleaming marble floors that had recently been mopped added to the soothing ambiance of the waiting area as a warm, friendly receptionist and a few cordial members of staff welcomed us into the cozy building.

We met the Chairman of the Zitadel Group of companies who, though not a doctor, decided to put together a world class medical facility after, what he described as a bad experience. He gave us a glimpse of his vision and a mini tour. He has tried to create a comfortable, relaxing and discreet environment where every patient is treated with dignity and has gathered an exceedingly capable team of doctors, nurses, staff and specialists to ensure that patients feel comfortable coming in whatever their condition or concerns. He does not condone anything less than courteous and considerate behavior towards patients and ensures that any need or worry a patient comes in with is attended to with utmost attention and care.
